Enugu Government Dissolves Amufia Eke Village Association, Says Step Vital To Forestall Impending Communal Clash
The Enugu State Hon. Commissioner for Local Government, Rural Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, Deacon Okey Ogbodo has dissolved the executives of Amufia Eke Village Association with immediate effect.
Recall that a group of concerned indigenes of Amufia Eke led by Mr Augustine Chijioke (Ajali Eke) wrote a petition to the Chairman of Eke Town Union Caretaker Committee and copied the Hon. Commissioner. In the petition, several allegations such as mismanagement of community resources and lack of accountability and transparency were leveled against the Ichie Joseph Agu and Mr Okwudili Nwankwo led administration. The petitioners equally maintained that the dissolved EXCO had expired since 2020, and that the EXCO had illegitimately and rudderlessly governed the good people of Amufia Eke for an unbelievable period of 13 uninterrupted years.
The dissolution took place on Thursday, November 13, 2025 inside the Boardroom of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Enugu. Apart from the Hon. Commissioner, Deacon Okey Ogbodo and the Permanent Secretary, Dr Ifeanyi Agujiobi, the meeting was equally attended by some key senior officials and Directors of the Ministry. More than 40 people from Eke attended the meeting, including the Chairman of the Eke Town Union Caretaker Committee, Prof Chinedu Aguba and his members, the Councilor of Eke Ward, Hon Ngozi Ugwu, chairmen and secretaries of respective villages in Eke, former President General of Eke Town Union, Chief Mike Aniekwe, all the former executive members of Amufia village and some key stakeholders of Eke extraction.

Since nature abhors vacuum, the following persons were appointed by the Honourable Commissioner to take charge of Amufia pending the time fresh election will be conducted:
1. High Chief Sergius Aliozor (Okpokolani) —Chairman
2. Hon. Ngozi Ugwu— Member
3. Mr Augustine Ugwu—Member
According to the Hon Commissioner, two more names will be added to the list in due course. The take over and hand over ceremonies are with immediate effect.
The major terms of reference for the Chief Sergius Aliozor’s new regime in Amufia are:
1. To take charge of the affairs of Amufia village until the election is conducted.
2. To conduct a free, fair and credible election for the Amufia village, under the strict monitoring of the Chairman, Eke Town Union Caretaker Committee and his members.
3. To initiate the processes of financial audit and conduct a thorough review of resource allocations by the former executives.
The Hon Commissioner hinted on the need for peace in Eke, warning that the full weight of the law would be meted on anyone or group of individuals that would ferment trouble in the community. He cited Akpakwume and Umuchigbo Nike as where lives and property have recently been lost due to unnecessary rivalry regarding town union elections and related matters. He warned that Amufia and Eke in general must not tow same path.
It is expected that the new interim administration in Amufia will provide the much needed peace and tranquility in the oldest village in Eke, the Amufia village.
God bless our community, Eke!!!
