UKANA — The Ukana Central Youth has inaugurated a new executive council led by Mr. Okechukwu Offor as President, following a peaceful, credible and widely participated election that brought together thousands of Ukana youths from within and outside the community.
The inauguration and formal handover ceremony, held on Sunday at the Library, New Site, Ukana, marked the beginning of a new four-year administration for the Ukana Central Youth and provided an opportunity for the outgoing leadership to account for its stewardship while transferring the affairs of the organisation to the newly elected executives.
The event, which attracted youths, traditional and community leaders, stakeholders, patrons, elders and other members of the Ukana community, was characterised by excitement, appreciation, reconciliation and renewed optimism about the future of the community.
The new administration emerged from the Ukana Central Youth election conducted on August 16, 2026, in an election that was described by stakeholders as peaceful, free, fair and credible.
The election generated significant interest among Ukana youths, with thousands of young people travelling from far and near to return to their ancestral community and exercise their civic responsibility by participating in the process of choosing those who would pilot the affairs of Ukana Central Youth for the next four years.
The large turnout was seen as a demonstration of the importance attached to youth leadership and the development of Ukana, as well as a reflection of the renewed interest of young people in the affairs of their community.
At the end of the election, Mr. Okechukwu Offor emerged President of the Ukana Central Youth, alongside other members of the new executive council.
The election and the subsequent inauguration have further strengthened the growing sense of unity in Ukana, with speakers at the ceremony repeatedly calling on all youths, including those who contested the election and did not emerge victorious, to put the election behind them and work together for the overall development of the community.
Speaking during the inauguration and handover ceremony, the immediate past President of Ukana Central Youth, Pastor Ejike Onyema, expressed gratitude to the people of Ukana for giving him and his team the opportunity to serve the community.
Pastor Onyema thanked the youths and other stakeholders for the confidence reposed in his administration throughout its tenure, stressing that leadership was a responsibility entrusted to those elected to serve.
He also commended members of the electoral committee for organising what he described as a free, fair and credible election, noting that the peaceful transition was a reflection of the maturity and commitment of Ukana youths to democratic values.
The outgoing president charged the newly inaugurated executives to hit the ground running, assuring them that the necessary documents, materials, equipment and other resources required to commence their administration had been formally handed over to them.
According to him, the new executives have been provided with the foundation upon which they can build and continue the work already started by the outgoing administration.
He urged the new leadership to remain focused, accessible and committed to the welfare and development of Ukana youths, while maintaining the spirit of unity that characterised the transition.
In his response, the newly inaugurated President, Mr. Okechukwu Offor, accepted the items and responsibilities handed over to his administration, expressing appreciation to the outgoing executives for what he described as a smooth election, inauguration and handover process.
Offor particularly appealed to Ukana youths to continue to support the new administration, stressing that the success of the leadership would depend not only on the executives but also on the cooperation, ideas, constructive criticism and participation of the entire youth body.
He pledged that his administration would follow the path of the immediate past administration and build on its achievements, promising to pursue continuity, progress and development for Ukana.
The new president said the decision to build on the foundation laid by the previous administration was deliberate because the outgoing executives had performed well and created an environment in which the new leadership could thrive.
He assured the people that the new administration would not abandon successful initiatives and projects inherited from the previous leadership, but would consolidate them, improve where necessary and introduce fresh ideas that would further advance the interests of Ukana youths.
Offor also called for unity among Ukana youths, emphasising that the election had ended and that the focus must now shift from campaigns and contests to governance, development and service.
The swearing-in ceremony was conducted by the President General of Ukana Town Union, Mr. Celestine Eze, who charged the newly elected executives to provide purposeful leadership and maintain close collaboration with the Town Union.
Mr. Eze urged the new youth leadership to synchronise its ideas, programmes and projects with the broader vision of the Ukana Town Union, stressing that development could only be sustained when community organisations worked together rather than in isolation.
He called for consistent collaboration among the different stakeholders and groups in Ukana, particularly those genuinely committed to the collective progress and development of the town.
According to him, the youth organisation remains an important component of the community structure and therefore has a critical role to play in maintaining peace, promoting development and providing opportunities for young people.
The President General also described 2026 as a remarkable year in the history of Ukana.
He noted that the year had witnessed several significant developments, including the arrival of a new priest Rev. Fr. Charles Emeka whom he said understands the desires and aspirations of the people of Ukana, the conduct of a credible Town Union election and the successful conduct of a peaceful youth election.
Eze said these developments had contributed to a renewed atmosphere of peace and unity across Ukana.
He declared that peace was now evident across the different levels of leadership in the community, from the traditional institution to the Town Union and the youth body, stressing that the different arms of leadership had become united in the pursuit of the common good.
The President General urged the new youth executives to see their inauguration not merely as a ceremony but as a call to service, responsibility and accountability.
Also speaking, the Patron of Ukana Central Youth, Chief Stanley Ani, commended the outgoing executives for what he described as the successful organisation of the election, inauguration and handover process.
Chief Ani encouraged the new executives to seek advice whenever necessary, reminding them that no leader possesses all the knowledge required to successfully administer an organisation.
He particularly urged the new leadership to seek the face of God in the administration of their responsibilities, noting that leadership requires wisdom, humility and a genuine desire to serve.
Chief Ani described 2026 as a good year for Ukana youths, citing the peaceful election and the seamless inauguration and handover ceremony as evidence of the maturity and unity within the youth organisation.
He expressed optimism that the new executive would perform creditably and build on the achievements of previous administrations.
Other speakers at the ceremony also congratulated the newly elected executives and urged them to embrace every segment of Ukana Central Youth.
They specifically called on the new leadership to reach out to those who contested against them during the August 16 election, stressing that the conclusion of the election should mark the beginning of reconciliation and collective work.
Speakers repeatedly emphasised the principle of “No victor, no vanquished,” urging all contestants and their supporters to put aside political differences and join hands with the new administration for the development of Ukana.
They maintained that Ukana remains one indivisible community and that no election should be allowed to create permanent divisions among its people.
The handover ceremony also provided an opportunity for the outgoing administration to present an account of its stewardship to the youth body.
Among the major activities was the presentation of the administration’s accounts of stewardship, through which the outgoing executives gave an overview of their activities, programmes and achievements during their tenure.
The outgoing leadership also formally handed over important documents and stationery to the new administration, providing the new executives with the administrative records and materials necessary for the effective running of the organisation.
Equipment and sporting materials procured by past administrations were also handed over as part of the transition process.
The new executives equally received records relating to completed and ongoing projects, giving them an opportunity to familiarise themselves with projects inherited from previous administrations and determine areas requiring continuation, completion, expansion or improvement.
The transparent handover of these materials and records was seen by participants as an important demonstration of accountability and institutional continuity within Ukana Central Youth.
The ceremony also featured the formal swearing-in of the new executives, goodwill messages from stakeholders, interactions with community leaders and interviews with key personalities.
The atmosphere throughout the event reflected the excitement of Ukana youths, many of whom expressed satisfaction that the election and transition process had been successfully concluded without the rancour often associated with leadership contests.
For many of the youths who returned from different locations to participate in the August 16 election, the exercise represented more than simply choosing new officers.
It was an opportunity to reconnect with their community, participate directly in its affairs and contribute to determining the direction of youth leadership in Ukana for the next four years.
The significant participation of youths from far and near also underscored the enduring connection between Ukana and its sons and daughters in the diaspora.
The peaceful transition has therefore been widely viewed as a positive development for Ukana, particularly at a time when stakeholders are emphasising unity, peace, continuity and collective development.
With the inauguration of the Okechukwu Offor-led executive, attention now shifts from the election to governance and delivery.
The new administration is expected to translate its promises into programmes and initiatives capable of improving the welfare of Ukana youths, strengthening youth participation in community development and consolidating the existing relationship between the youth body and the Ukana Town Union.
The emphasis on continuity by the new president has also raised expectations that ongoing projects and successful programmes of the immediate past administration will not be abandoned, while new initiatives will be introduced in response to emerging needs.
The successful election, inauguration and handover have further provided an opportunity for Ukana Central Youth to strengthen its institutions and establish a culture of orderly leadership transition.
As the new administration settles into office, stakeholders have expressed hope that the spirit of unity witnessed during the inauguration will be sustained throughout the next four years.
For a community that witnessed the return of thousands of its youths for the August 16 election and subsequently celebrated a peaceful transfer of leadership, the message from the ceremony was clear: the election is over, the new leadership has assumed responsibility, and the task of building a better Ukana now belongs to everyone.
The inauguration of the Okechukwu Offor-led Ukana Central Youth executive has therefore opened a new chapter in the history of youth leadership in the community, with the new administration inheriting both the achievements and responsibilities of its predecessors.
With the support of Ukana youths, the Town Union, traditional authorities, community leaders, patrons, elders and other stakeholders, the new leadership is expected to build on the existing foundation and pursue a development agenda anchored on unity, accountability, continuity, peace and service to the people.
For Ukana, the events of 2026 have offered a renewed sense of optimism — from the conduct of a credible Town Union election to the peaceful youth election and the orderly inauguration and handover of leadership.
The challenge before the new executives is now to sustain that momentum and convert the goodwill generated by the transition into tangible results for the people.
