By Chris Ike Enemoh…
The council chairman of Udi local government on Friday joined his counterparts from other local government areas in the state under the auspices of the Association of Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria (ALGON), Enugu State Chapter to pay a visit to the state of the art farm estate in Nkanu East Local Government Area.

The reason for the visit, according Hon. Hyginus Agu, was to get a glimpse of what is expected infrastructural, security and standard as Nkanu East Local Government Area, home of the Executive governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah becomes the first to set the pace on the farm Estates project.
Agu aligned with Gov. Peter Mbah’s agenda of moving Enugu’s GDP from $4 billion to above $30 billion, through active state-local government partnership in agriculture.
Udi Local Government Chairman stated;
As part of our shared commitment to agricultural transformation in Enugu State, the Association of Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria (ALGON), Enugu State Chapter, visited the newly constructed Farm Estate in Nkanu East Local Government Area.
This groundbreaking project, initiated by His Excellency, Governor Peter Mbah, is the first of its kind in Nigeria, and in Enugu State, it’s to be replicated in the 260 political wards across the state. It serves as a prototype for similar farm estates to be developed in all local government areas.
The farm estate is designed to boost food production, create employment opportunities, and ensure the steady availability of agricultural products across the state—fighting insecurity through food security and providing a sustainable economic foundation for our people.
During our visit, we were highly impressed by the innovation and vision behind the project. As local government chairmen, we are committed—in partnership through agriculture—to move our GDP from $4 billion to above $30 billion, in alignment with the Governor’s bold economic agenda.

Governor Peter Mbah’s Leadership: A Catalyst for Ndi-Enugu’s Prosperity
Recall that Eke Tv had published that Udi Local Government Chairman, Hon. Hyginus Agu has set to replicate same Gov Peter Mbah’s innovative leadership style in Udi by embracing Mbah’s vision towards food security through the Enugu Farm Estates In Udi Local Government.
The Enugu Farm Estates Programme is poised to impact the states socio-economic landscape by targeting food security, job creation, and rural economic development, which is being reciprocated in Udi Local Government Area through the council chairman’s proactive measures to make these initiatives a dream come through in the council.
The success of the Enugu Farm Estates hinges on empowering the local farmers who will drive agricultural productivity. Each estate will accommodate 200 farmers from local communities, each allocated 1 hectare of land. To ensure maximum productivity, farmers will receive training and extension services to enhance their knowledge of modern agronomy practices, access to quality input, such as improved seeds and fertilisers, mechanised support, including tractors and other farming equipment, and guaranteed market access through structured offtake arrangements.

In order to achieve these success, The Enugu Farm Estate Programme is collaborating with the state and local governments, demonstrating how strategic public-sector partnerships can drive rural development. The funding structure ensures effective resource mobilisation, with a 60 per cent contribution from the Enugu State Government and a 40 per cent contribution from local governments. This joint approach secures funding and ensures accountability and shared responsibility in executing the programme. Similar models in China and other western countries have shown that government-private partnerships in agriculture can lead to GDP growth of over eight percent annually. This collaborative nature of the initiative makes all stakeholders feel included in the process
Recall also, that Udi council chairman had discovered up to 42 moribund boreholes within the area and swiped into action to restore them, this is in line with Gov. Peter Mbah’s vision to ensure portable water delivery in Enugu state.
Mr. Agu is re-echoing the tomorrow is here mantra in Udi.
