OPINON: Sure Return Ticket For The 2027 Second Term
By Collins OkoloChukwu Obodo Deputy Corps Commander Rtd
His Excellency, Dr Barr Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s Governor of Enugu State has made a total departure from the previous State Governors we used to have, right from his assumption of office. I am talking about a State Governor who made an ambitious 2025 Annual Budget of 971 Billion Naira, which is the highest in the history of the State, and even amongst the non oil federated allocation States. By setting aside 86% of the Budget as Capital Expenditure, Mbah has proved he is a great lover of our future. Indeed our tomorrow is here. This is a total departure from the other ostentatious Governors of the State we used to have in the past who dwelt too much on the recurrent consumption.
A Governor who had boldly and selflessly allocated 33.2% of the above to Education is not just another Governor, but one who has proved himself to be a great lover of our children. By this single act he has far surpassed the 26% UNESCO recommended benchmark allocation for Education. This is commendable and delightful to the people of the State. Above all, for the midas touch Governor to have grown the State economy from the miserable $4.4bn to $30bn in just two years he was sworn in as Governor remains stunning.
Gov Peter Ndubuisi Mbah is different from his predecessors who had allowed Enugu Capital city to remain semi rural, undeveloped and non urbanized for years in the midst of other fast growing State Capitals in the country. One can imagine Enugu the one time capital city and headquarters of the whole eastern region and one time capital city and headquarters of East Central States, to have boasted of its first and only one flyover until as late as 2023 under ex Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. Under Governor Peter Mbah, however, we feel proud to see Enugu Capital city beginning to wear a new look and poised to reclaim its deserved pride of prominence as the foremost pioneer capital city east of the Niger.

Governor Mbah rose from a pantry 37.4bn Internal Revenue Generation in 2023 to 144.7bn in 2024. Only an aggressive revenue generator of his stuff could successfully allocate a whooping 86% of Annual Budget to Capital Expenditures and carried out such milestone capital projects as:
Massive roads in both urban cities and the rural areas.
Modern Enugu Smart City
260 Smart Green Schools
Modern Transport Terminals and CNG buses
International Conference Centre with the State of the Arts Facilities
+New Model Government Technical Colleges and ESUT Specialist Teaching Hospital
Others.
In his drive for projects diversifications agenda, I will like to appeal to His Excellency to please
+ To create Model Transport Terminals at 9th Mile Corner due to its transit strategic benefits
+To rehabilitate the 9th – Obollo Affor Expressway, albeit being a Federal Road. Our people from Udi and Ezeagu Local Government Areas spend 3 hours going round Enugu – Abakaliki Road – Abakpa Nike – Ugwogo Nike route before getting to Obollo Affor; a journey we could easily make in less than 30 minutes via the 9th Mile Expressway, if fixed.
It is worthy of note to point out that this part of Enugu State, I mean Udi and Ezeagu Local Government Areas, and the entire Enugu West Senatorial Zone, had suffered undeserved hardships and neglects in the hands of our past State Governors and other political leaders. However, with Governor Mbah and the irrepressible Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial Zone, Distinguished Senator Osita Ngwu, our feeling of belonging is gradually returning. As far as we are concerned, these two super performing politicians, I mean the Midas touch Governor Peter Mbah and our indefatigable Distinguished Senator Extraordinary Osita Ngwu, have comfortably booked their return tickets to their Next Term come 2027, even before they had completed their two years in office. I know I am speaking the minds of my people. We are not interested in the stomach politicians who are jumping from one political party to another, seeking for recognition and for their other personal selfish gains. All what we need is evidence based results of delivering dividends on the campaign promises made.
